2 Fun and Simple Easter Crafts

easter_craftsSpringtime and Easter are just around the corner, and with them come visions of flowers, bunnies, and pastel-colored eggs. One of the best ways to celebrate any holiday is with handmade holiday decorations.

There are a number of decorative Easter crafts that are inexpensive and easy to create using a hot glue gun, a few objects from a craft or department store, and other items you probably already have at home.

Here are a few simple craft ideas to get you started:

Easter Candy Wreath

This colorful wreath is easy to make, and with care it can be reused for several years; just store it in a cool, dry place.

What You Need

  • a foam wreath base, available at any craft store
  • foil-wrapped chocolate eggs
  • a hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • a pastel bow
  • a picture hook

How To Make It

Place a small dab of hot glue on the back of each candy and attach it immediately to the wreath base. Continue to place the candies to completely cover the front and sides of the base. Once the wreath is completely covered, add chocolates until you achieve the desired shape and fullness of your wreath.

When you are satisfied with how your wreath looks, hot glue a bow to the front of the wreath and allow the glue to dry completely. Attach a picture hanger at the top of the back side of the wreath to finish the project.

Easter ‘Snow’ Globe

Who says snow globes are only for Christmas? With a few simple substitutions this traditional winter display can house a beautiful spring scene.

What You Need

  • a baby food or other medium to large jar, with lid
  • pastel glitter or small, flower-shaped confetti
  • florists’ clay, available at craft stores
  • a small plastic bunny figurine or other Easter symbol
  • a length of ribbon, about a half an inch wide
  • hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • white glue
  • felt round, cut to fit the top of the lid

How To Make It

Wash and completely dry the jar and lid. Add cold water to within a half inch of the top, and then add about a half of a teaspoon of the glitter. The amount of glitter can be adjusted, but be careful not to add too much. Set the jar aside for a few minutes.

Inside the lid, put a small mound of florists clay. Set your figurine into the clay. Run a ribbon of hot glue around the inside of the lid and screw it onto the jar. Run another ribbon of glue around the rim to seal the jar. Let dry overnight.

Glue the felt round to the top of the jar with white glue. Attach a ribbon around the lid in the same manner.
