Applique

Appliqué comes from the French word appliquer, meaning to put on or to lay on. Applique is a technique where pieces of fabric are sewn, either by hand or machine, onto a foundation piece of fabric to create a design. Although the pieces of material can be the same colour as the foundation piece, generally different colours and patterns are used to create a design that will stand out. Often materials of different textures are used to create interest.
